NetDocuments, the #1 trusted intelligent document management system for legal professionals, today announced the addition of AI-powered Tabular Review and the extension of Legal Authorities to its Legal Context Graph, expanding what lawyers can accomplish directly in the DMS.
“As AI capabilities continue to evolve, we are adding more powerful features like Tabular Review to support everyday workflows of legal professionals,” said Dan Hauck, Chief Product Officer at NetDocuments®. “In addition, we’re expanding the reach of the Legal Context Graph to automatically extract caselaw citations from any document uploaded to NetDocuments, creating an instant table of authorities with links to read the caselaw in full.”
Tabular Review: Expanding the AI capabilities of NetDocuments
Today, a team running due diligence or a contract audit reviews each document individually and assembles findings by hand. Tabular Review changes that. It transforms collections of legal documents into a structured table, designed for due diligence, contract audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance assessments. With Tabular Review, each document becomes a row, and user-defined questions become columns. The AI extracts, classifies, and surfaces relevant information from every document simultaneously, with per-cell citations linking back to the source text in the original document.
The analysis takes place within NetDocuments, so the documents remain subject to the firm’s existing security controls, ethical walls, and policies that govern AI use on client content.
Tabular Review joins a growing suite of AI capabilities available directly in the platform, including:
- Legal AI Assistant that can help find precedent documents, answer questions, or analyze information based on content stored anywhere inside NetDocuments.
- App Builder that lets lawyers execute complex, AI-powered workflows and document creation skills that address the needs of specific practice areas.
- More than 40 prebuilt AI apps in ndMAX Studio, including contract risk analysis, deposition prep, NDA review, judge analytics, and medical chronology, covering litigation, transactional, in-house, and IP workflows out of the box.
- AI Profiling that automatically classifies and identifies essential metadata inside documents, making it searchable and embedding the information into the Legal Context Graph.
Legal Authorities: Extending the Legal Context Graph
As documents are uploaded to NetDocuments, the platform automatically extracts every citation and feeds them into the Legal Context Graph, building a firm-wide, always-current map of the authorities referenced in every document and email. Each citation is linked directly to the corresponding case on CourtListener, a free public legal corpus, so a lawyer can go from a cite in their own document to the full authority and verify the case directly.
Each authority is also tied back to the exact sentences that cite it, so reviewers see not just that a case was referenced, but where, how, and in what argument the firm used it. The result is a living layer of verified legal intelligence that grows with every document the firm produces.
A complete legal AI platform, with an advantage only the DMS can deliver
NetDocuments now offers the broadest range of AI capabilities available in a single legal DMS, putting the tools lawyers need for daily legal work directly where they already work – and under the same permissions and ethical walls that govern their content.
Because these capabilities are built into the platform where the firm’s documents already live, they have an advantage other AI tools don’t: a living Legal Context Graph and semantic search across the firm’s entire document corpus. Every matter, every document, every version, is connected and queryable. The institution’s full corpus of knowledge and expertise, surfaced.
That is the difference between AI that answers questions about the documents in front of it and AI that surfaces the precedent a lawyer didn’t know to look for.
“Together, these capabilities represent what we’ve been building toward,” said Hauck. “A platform purpose-built for legal work, where the firm’s institutional knowledge grows automatically, and every AI tool in the firm’s stack, ours and our partners’, gets smarter because of it.”
