i2k Connect Inc., a leader in domain-specific artificial intelligence for the energy sector, today announced that the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has extended its 11-year collaboration to further integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning. The i2k AI Platform will consistently classify papers, books, and information in SPE’s OnePetro system, significantly accelerating information retrieval for oil and gas professionals who use it.

OIL & GAS AGENTIC CHAT™ workflows serve as intelligent assistants that can execute multistep geotechnical tasks across millions of unstructured documents, reports, and legacy maps. Instead of relying on error-prone transcription processes, the system reads messy historic files on demand to construct geological, geophysical, and engineering analyses, including seismic imaging, complex 3D well trajectories, stratigraphic cross-sections, and production decline curves directly from original source documentation.

The classification is fully automated, drawing on millions of contextual clues from more than 20 knowledge bases maintained by i2k Connect. These knowledge bases cover geology, geophysics, oilfield locations, petroleum engineering, and subsurface terminology, along with the general business terms used across all industries. Tagging content with metadata from these knowledge bases makes information much easier to find, and automation keeps the process fast and cost-effective.

Simon Seaton, SPE CEO, commented, “SPE has long been committed to making the industry’s collective knowledge as accessible and useful as possible. Our continued collaboration with i2k Connect represents an important step in applying AI to improve the discoverability and value of the technical content entrusted to us by the global oil and gas community.”

Cynthia Alsup, i2k’s Chief AI Customer Success Officer, commented, “Many AI companies overlook the importance of consistently tagging institutional knowledge, which often sits untagged on shared drives and SharePoint. Tagging improves search, surfaces the right documents, and focuses AI queries on that content. This lowers token costs, cuts research time, and often uncovers information a company forgot it had.”

The SPE and i2k partnership began in 2015 to launch a more intuitive research portal and was expanded in 2023 to unify multi-discipline data from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), ultimately leading to the co-development of EnRG-LLM™ model, an energy-specific large language model that earned the prestigious 2026 OTC Spotlight on New Technology Award.

About the Society of Petroleum Engineers: The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit professional association with more than 129,900 members in 148 countries engaged in the exploration and production of oil and gas and related energy resources.

About i2k Connect Inc.: Based in Houston, Texas, i2k Connect Inc. provides an enterprise agentic AI platform that transforms unstructured data into trusted, high-accuracy intelligence for technical and executive teams. Leveraging deep industry expertise and advanced natural language processing, the company’s OIL & GAS AGENTIC CHAT™ solution empowers major energy operators to reduce operational risk, accelerate technical workflows, and uncover hidden value in legacy information assets.
