TAIMATSU launches FE, a new knife brand combining global manufacturing technologies with Japanese design principles to redefine the value of kitchen knives.

TOKYO, JAPAN, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — TAIMATSU Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Wang Weihan), the company behind Japanese knife brand MUSASHI JAPAN, is expanding its portfolio with FE, a new brand that combines knife-making technologies from around the world with Japanese design principles. With further domestic and international growth in sight, FE aims to redefine the value of knives beyond traditional production regions and established conventions, while developing a diverse product lineup to meet evolving needs. Its first release is ZAKU, a series that embodies the brand’s philosophy.

FE actively incorporates modern materials and advanced manufacturing techniques, drawing on the strengths of different production methods to develop knives that meet Japanese performance standards.

At the heart of FE is the belief that craftsmanship evolves when knowledge crosses borders. Different regions and cultures have developed their own knife-making techniques over generations. Rather than being limited by a particular country, production region, or tradition, FE draws on these diverse approaches to create new possibilities for modern knives.

Preserving Tradition Through MUSASHI JAPAN, Pursuing Innovation Through FE

TAIMATSU launched MUSASHI JAPAN in 2020, initially selling its Japanese knives online. Today, the brand serves customers in more than 160 countries and operates physical stores in Japan and overseas. Through MUSASHI JAPAN, TAIMATSU has worked to share Japan’s knife-making traditions with the world. Its next step is to build on that foundation and explore new possibilities.

MUSASHI JAPAN remains dedicated to preserving the heritage of Japanese knives, respecting the materials, shapes, techniques, and craftsmanship developed throughout Japan’s long history of knife making. Its mission is to protect these values while sharing their appeal with customers around the world.

FE takes a different approach, seeking to expand the possibilities of knife making beyond established frameworks. By reconsidering what users expect from a knife, including sharpness, ease of use, durability, design, and suitability for modern lifestyles, FE pursues new approaches made possible by contemporary technology and ideas.

The concept behind FE began taking shape in 2024, inspired by a fundamental question that emerged as TAIMATSU brought Japanese knives to international markets: What should knife making look like in the future?

Over approximately two years of conceptual development and product design, TAIMATSU explored how global materials and manufacturing technologies could be combined with Japanese design principles and quality standards. From the brand’s fundamental philosophy to material selection, production methods, design, and user experience, each element was carefully reconsidered. The result is FE, a new brand designed to build on established craftsmanship while exploring what comes next.

In February 2026, TAIMATSU exhibited at Ambiente, one of the world’s largest international consumer goods trade fairs, held in Frankfurt, Germany. Alongside MUSASHI JAPAN knives, the company introduced FE to buyers and retail professionals from around the world. Visitors praised the distinctive appearance of the blades, noting their potential to stand out in retail displays, as well as the modern, bold design that sets them apart from conventional Japanese knives. Feedback also highlighted practical qualities, including sharpness and grip comfort.

These responses reinforced interest in FE as a brand that combines the familiar usability associated with Japanese knives with a distinctly different design approach. TAIMATSU has continued refining its products and brand concept while incorporating feedback from international markets.

ZAKU: An Original Series Inspired by Meteorites

ZAKU is FE’s first original series, developed in collaboration with a startup specializing in advanced machinery technology in China. For TAIMATSU, it marks the first time the company has planned and designed an original knife series entirely from scratch, covering everything from material selection and blade specifications to handling and detailed design.

The series combines the manufacturing capabilities and equipment of its development partner with TAIMATSU’s own approach to product development and the expertise of both teams.

The name ZAKU incorporates the Japanese character 作, meaning “to make” or “create,” together with part of the development partner’s name. It reflects the series’ philosophy of creating new value through collaboration between different technologies and areas of expertise.

ZAKU’s design takes inspiration from meteorites. The blade incorporates a rugged, raw texture reminiscent of these objects from space, contrasted with a polished cutting edge. This interplay creates a distinctive appearance that combines a powerful, robust character with refined beauty. Beyond functional performance, the series is designed to offer an individual character that users can appreciate every time they pick it up.

A More Personal Approach to Choosing a Knife

FE offers customers the option of purchasing a finished knife or creating their own by combining a preferred blade and handle, with approximately 400 possible combinations.

Handles can also be replaced after purchase, allowing users to adapt their knives as their preferences and needs evolve. This approach reflects FE’s belief that a knife is not necessarily finished on the day it is made, but continues to develop through the experience of using it. From the initial selection to years of use, FE aims to offer knives that evolve alongside their owners.

Transparency in Craftsmanship and Performance

Transparency is another defining element of FE’s approach. In its stores, knife assembly, finishing, and inspection are carried out in an environment visible to customers. The brand also uses specialized equipment to measure sharpness, translating a quality often judged by feel alone into measurable performance data.

FE aims to let customers see how their knives are made and verify their performance for themselves. By opening up the manufacturing process and presenting performance in numerical terms, the brand seeks to make the quality and capabilities of knives more accessible and transparent.

The launch of FE marks a new phase of growth for TAIMATSU. Building on the commitment to craftsmanship developed through MUSASHI JAPAN, the company plans to expand the possibilities of its brands and products while pursuing opportunities in a wider range of domestic and international markets.

By preserving the knowledge inherited from traditional craftsmanship and advancing it through modern technologies and new ideas, FE aims to redefine expectations for knives and establish a new standard that brings together functionality, performance, and design.
